Retro Sound Maker

One tuned 8-bit / 16-bit effect at a time — 100% in your browser. No upload, no signup, $0/use.

Waiting. Press “Use demo sound” to hear a jump effect instantly — nothing leaves this device.

44.1 kHz mono. Bit depth controls the WAV encoding only (8-bit unsigned / 16-bit signed PCM). Playback uses the Web Audio API; files are encoded directly as PCM — no server, no library, no upload.

How to use

  1. Pick a preset (jump, pickup, laser, explosion, UI, powerup, hit, whoosh) — or press “Use demo sound”.
  2. Tune start/end frequency, duration, decay and noise mix; the waveform redraws instantly.
  3. Press “Play” to hear it (Web Audio API, this tab only).
  4. Press “Download WAV” for one effect, or “Download full set” for all 8 presets as 8 WAV files.

FAQ

Does this upload anything?

No. Every sound is synthesized mathematically in this tab. Watch the network panel — zero uploads, zero third-party requests.

What exactly do I download?

One 44.1 kHz mono WAV per click (8-bit or 16-bit, your choice), named retro-<preset>-<8|16>bit.wav. “Download full set” exports all 8 presets the same way, one file at a time.

Why not just buy a retro sound tool?

The 8-bit and 16-bit Music Generator ($3 on itch.io) is paid and download-only, and its random procedural tracks cannot be tuned per effect; Bourbon 26 ($29.99) is a game launcher, not a sound maker; Nimble Kick ($29.99) needs a DAW. This page tunes one effect at a time, free, with nothing to install.

Who owns the sounds?

You do. Output is original synthesis from your settings — no samples, no rips. Use it commercially; this page keeps no copy and claims no rights.
